Yohan Castaing 93 points www.robertparker.com 13th Apr 2023 The 2020 Domaine de l’A, a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, is a standout example of what this estate can produce and will appeal to all serious aficionados of fine Bordeaux. The bouquet is slightly oaky and fresh, exhibiting elegant aromas of spices, violet, cassis and licorice. Medium to full-bodied and perfectly balanced, this wine is fleshy and round with sweet tannins and has a long, penetrating and saline finish very influenced by its origin from calcareous soil. It will offer a broad drinking window.
Jane Anson 93 points www.decanter.com (at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021) Enjoyably slick toasting of cedar and liquorice root, black cherry, silky texture and a good bounce through the tannins. This is expertly done, sleek and hard to argue with. Drinking Window 2023 – 2034
Antonio Galloni 91-93 points www.vinous.com The 2020 Domaine de L’A is incredibly reticent today. Given how well it ages, that should not be a huge concern. Dark-fleshed fruit, graphite and spice gradually open with a bit of coaxing, all framed by bright saline notes that build into the persistent finish. I imagine the 2020 is going to need a number of years to shine. It is a hugely promising wine, even in the very early going.
William Kelley 93+ points www.robertparker.com Always a reference point for what is possible in this appellation, Derenonourt’s 2020 Domaine de l’A wafts from the glass with aromas of blackberries and violets mingled hints of licorice, spices and creamy oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, it’s vibrant and layered, with powdery tannins and a long, penetrating finish. As readers will remember, this property consists of 20 hectares on south-facing clay-limestone slopes and the plateau above them, planted with some 70% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc.
