Assemblage : 97 % merlot, 3 % cabernet franc. Degré d’alcool : 15° – pH : 3,9. Rendement : 45 hl/ha. Production : 25 000 bouteilles. Un merveilleux Outsider.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown 88-90 points www.robertparker.com/ Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 La Croix de Gay bursts from the glass with notes of Christmas cake, stewed black plums and Black Forest cake with hints of espresso, black plums and licorice. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves and loads of spicy accents, framed by soft, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on a persistent aniseed note.
Antonio Galloni 88-90 points www.vinous.com The 2019 La Croix de Gay is powerful and a bit rough around the edges, but quite pleasant just the same. Dried flowers, herbs, menthol, licorice, scorched earth and blue fruits all open up in this mid-weight yet hearty Pomerol. The 2019 is not especially refined, but it has plenty of character.
Jane Anson 93 points www.decanter.com (at Bordeaux, 20 May 2020) smoked coffee beans accompany the first nose, infusing the creamy damson and black cherry fruit. Packed full of plush and velvety Pomerol tannins, muscled and confident overall. You are not going to mistake where you are with this wine, great appellation signature and overall a highly successful Croix de Gay, from the Raynaud-Lebreton family. A yield of 39hl/ha. Axel Marchal consultant for first time as of 2019 vintage. Drinking Window 2025 – 2042
